Black Famous Baseball Players

Some of the most famous baseball players like Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams and Willie Mays just to name a few got paid in the range of $6,000 - $180,000 a year to play professional baseball.

Back in those days baseball players had little or no leverage to demand more money from the team owners like they do today with players getting multi-million dollar contracts.

However, of these players African American, Jackie Robinson was and still is the most recognized famous black baseball player today because he was the first Negro (black player) to sign and play major league baseball for the Montreal Royals in 1945.

But, to set the record straight there was several famous black baseball players who never played major league baseball and who was just as famous as Jackie Robinson in the Negro Baseball league and many who played major league baseball after Jackie Robinson.

Black famous baseball players can now live in the same hotels, eat at the same restaurants and have their pictures painted on baseballs and T-shirts and purchased by all races that's how far the world and baseball have change since the days of Jackie Robinson breaking the color line of baseball. However; since that time Major League Baseball continue to celebrate and honor Jackie Robinson #42 ever year, but there are less African Americans playing major league baseball today than ever before.

There was about 28% black players during Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, and Willie Mays years, but now that number have decreased to about 7.8% and continue to go backwards.

There have been a lot of talk about why the number of negro baseball players continue to decrease in professional baseball. The answers that I keep hearing on ESPN and other sports networks is that it's because African American athletes play football and basketball and not baseball.

This is not true blacks are playing baseball all over the county. What's the real reason for the decline in black baseball players in major league baseball?
